History of The Hitching Post

The land the barn sits on was originally purchased by Emory Trufant, buying the land directly from the United States in 1854. Built in the late 1800s, this historic barn was originally constructed using traditional techniques and materials of the time. The sturdy frame was crafted from hand-hewn timbers, and the walls were made from a combination of rough-sawn planks and fieldstone. The roof was covered in cedar shingles, providing a durable and weather-tight protection for the animals and hay stored inside. The barn was a functional and essential part of the farm, and it served the community for many decades.

Fast forward to present day, this beautiful and rustic barn has undergone a transformation. The interior has been beautifully renovated, featuring gleaming hardwood floors and elegant lighting. The exterior has been restored to its former glory, with numerous tasteful upgrades throughout. Now, it serves as a popular wedding venue, hosting happy couples from all over the area. The barn's rustic charm and historic ambiance provide a unique and unforgettable setting for any celebration. Whether you're looking to exchange vows under the stars or dance the night away in a romantic, candlelit setting, this barn provides the perfect backdrop for memories that will last a lifetime.
